Song of the Year in 1982 in North America
This song won Country Music Association’s Song of the Year and Single of the Year awards as well as the Grammy Awards for Best Male Country Vocal Performance, Best Country Song. Big win for Willie on a song that has been around since the 60s I think. Elvis also did this around the same time as Willie or just before. I prefer the Willie version.
I was looking for a easier one to do this time and whala this is it. Only took me a week. learning to do the solo as original recording was the longest part to figure out. I searched you tube to see if anyone had done it an posted but didn't find it. So I searched old live videos of live events to see what ideas I could get. The second half, Willie does on that old nylon string guitar of his and electric doesn't make that same pluck sound. He plays the final few notes running up the neck, but I optimized at fret 9 as my arrangement goes to 2nd fret immediately.
This is mostly for folks my age and older that remember classic country songs. But, I hope some others also like it. Anyway it's one of my favorites off my list.
