Vince Gill was the host. He introduced opening act Shania Twain, who flirted with several stars in the audience, including Marty Stuart and Johnny Cash. Cash presents an award to Alan Jackson. It's amazing that Cash took the time for this. He had such a busy year, he was preparing for recording sessions for American II and still had an Australian and Far Eastern Highwaymen tour ahead of him. The man could really work when he was under pressure.
