83 years ago today, Waylon Arnold Jennings was born near Littlefield, Texas. He first appeared on the US Country charts in 1965, at the ripe old age of 28, with a song that reached only #49. It would be a full seventy-nine releases later, in 1989, that he would have a song not go higher than #49! In between, Waylon managed an astonishing fifteen #1s, for hits like "I'm A Ramblin' Man" (1974), "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys" (1978) and the "Theme From The Dukes Of Hazzard" (1980). On the Billboard Pop charts, Waylon saw three of his Country #1s reach between #21 and #25.
Waylon died in 2002, aged 64.
